Questions

Which Mac do I need?

macOS 26 or newer, and Apple silicon. Rimay does not run on an Intel Mac.

Is dictation really free?

Dictation runs on your Mac with no per-minute transcription fees or monthly quota. Requests handled by the service that prepares responses and actions remain subject to your plan limits. Speech on this Mac avoids hosted speech synthesis and transcription; it does not remove the cost of the service that prepares responses and actions. Hosted online conversation is currently suspended.

Does my audio leave my Mac?

Dictation audio stays on your Mac. When talking with Rimay, you can choose speech on this Mac: audio stays local, but request text and the context needed to reply are sent to the service that prepares responses and actions. Hosted online conversation is currently suspended. If it is reactivated, it will also send your voice. Details: Privacy.

Do you keep what I say?

No. Our servers keep no audio, no transcript, no conversation. They keep counters (a number of requests, tokens, a cost) and what is needed to run your account.

Do I have to pick a language before speaking?

Dictation recognises French, English and Spanish, among other languages. Mixing languages within a sentence can lose words, so review the result. Speech on this Mac uses the language configured in your profile.

Does it type in any app?

Rimay tries to insert text into the field where you write. If that field is inaccessible or has changed, your text is kept: open the Notebook to recover it.

Can I cut her off while she talks?

Press the key again and she stops.

Does she remember our conversations?

Yes, and that memory stays on your Mac. You can erase all of it whenever you want.

How many Macs per licence?

One Mac per licence.

What if I don't like it?

You can try local dictation for free, unlimited, before subscribing. After paying, you have fourteen days to withdraw, refunded in proportion to what you did not use: see Refunds.

Can I download it already?

Not yet, and nothing is on sale today. Leave your address on the home page and you will get one message, on release day.
